New Jersey State Employees
2010-2011 Charitable Campaign

As the Chair of the 2010-2011 New Jersey State Employees Charitable Campaign (NJSECC) and the State Labor Commissioner, I realize that all of us are facing challenges due to the slow recovery of the national economy. I also know, however, that New Jersey’s state employees have a long tradition of rising to meet challenges and of supporting organizations that help our state’s most vulnerable residents. With that tradition in mind, I am asking for your support for this year’s charitable campaign and for the many organizations served in communities across New Jersey, the United States and around the world.

New Jersey’s public employees have been among the first to respond to tragedies at home and abroad and generous in giving to charity and volunteering in our communities. As public employees, the nature of the work you do, and services we provide, keep us in touch with the very real and vital needs in our communities. While many of you already support charitable causes, I urge you to include the New Jersey State Employees Charitable Campaign in your giving. Through the NJSECC we can work together to make a positive difference in the communities where we live, work and serve.

Last year, the NJSECC raised nearly $1.7 million through the generosity of about 8,100 state
employees. Those employees represent less than six percent of all state employees. I thank those 8,100 employees and I urge every state employee to consider the good you can do by joining in the campaign. In these difficult times, the need in our communities, across the country and around the world is greater than ever and every state employee who joins this effort can help make a difference for the community service organizations and help us achieve a participation rate closer to the 25 percent national average.

I know the goals we are setting for this year’s campaign seem ambitious but the support we can
provide will be vital to the 1,500 or more charities participating in this campaign. Please, join your fellow state employees in making a difference this year. The NJSECC needs your leadership and generosity.
